Romantic Odyssey
Published in Paperback by Xlibris Corporation (April, 1998)
Author: Earl Jay Perel
Average review score:

Collection of 366 Shakespearean Sonnets
Mr. Perel's collection of sonnets is remarkable in its well-craftedness and in its depth of thought.

I suspect that if William Shakespeare were alive today to read the work, he would approve.

RULES OF EVIDENCE
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Pocket Books (December, 1992)
Author: Jay Brandon
Average review score:

Great Characters Lift a Courtroom Drama Above the Pack
Call this genre fiction if you like, but Jay Brandon elevates the familiar cops and courtrooms drama with mature insight into the lives of a Black lawyer, the first of his family out of poverty, and a White cop whose affection for the old neighborhood is expressed in terms only a vigilante would understand. Raymond Boudro is the Black lawyer with a client list packed with drug pushers and convenience store robbers. Mike Stennett is the White narcotics cop who doesn't shy from bashing heads and breaking ribs when he can't make a case stick in court. When Stennett is accused of beating a Black man to death, he comes to Boudro to defend him. Boudro deplores this renegade cop's methods but wants to know the truth; taking the case is the only way he'll ever know. The crucible in which these two characters are locked creates all the tension you expect from the genre, but there's much more to savor--authentic lawyer talk to be sure, but it's the finely wrought human side of the two characters that sets this book apart.

Rules of Thumb for Business Writers
Published in Paperback by McGraw-Hill Humanities/Social Sciences/Languages (31 August, 1999)
Authors: Diana Roberts Wienbroer, Elaine Hughes, and Jay Silverman
Average review score:

Great reference book
Rules for Bus. Writers is an excellent quick reference to keep handy at your desk. Plenty of material for beginners as well as advanced writers. I liked the quick tips and good resources. I'd rate it "concise and helpful plus very easy to use" - it's a short and to the point guide. You don't have to wade through long passages of chitchat and padding to get the help you need. Highly recommend it!

Great Reference Tool
I first purchased this book for a Freshman College writing course. My copy is circa 1993, and I still use it to this day for personal and business use. The information is easy to reference and understand. It covers everything from spelling, when a colon or hyphen is appropriate, verbs and sentence structure, to how to write research paper beginning to end. I highly recommend it for students and professionals alike!

Santa's Secret
Published in Library Binding by Mountaintop Press (October, 2001)
Authors: Johanna Daniels and Jay Pittman
Average review score:

THE BEST Christmas book ever!
I was EXTREMELY pleased with this book. The Christmas message that it portrays is one of Christ, not commercialism. The TRUE meaning of Christmas -- remembering Jesus Christ and celebrating His birth -- is the main focus of this book. The illustrations are very fun and child friendly. My three daughters have enjoyed this book time and time again since we received it, as well have my wife and I. Santa teaches, using the commonly known and recognized symbols of the Christmas season, about Jesus and His Atonement and reminds us of the true reason for Christmas. My children now cannot think of Santa without thinking about the Savior and His sacrifice for us. This is a MUST HAVE book for every Christian home. It is destined to become a classic. I would recommend this book to anyone, with or without children, without reservation. Finally, Santa is not the focus of Christmas!

The Scent
Published in Paperback by Buy Books on the web.com (1998)
Author: Jay Jackson
Average review score:

Excellent Horror Tale
The Scent is really a fast paced blood-fest. If you're squeamish...this is not for you. Jackson has a brutal elegance to his writing. I loved it and finished the read in one day. I'd like to know if he has anything else published.

The Science of Everyday Life
Published in Paperback by Penguin USA (Paper) (May, 1991)
Author: Jay Ingram
Average review score:

A hilarious look at the world
This is one of the funniest books I have ever read in my life. It covers everything from yawning to the subtle dynamics of a cocktail party. It is put in very simple terms, so everyone can understand it. It covers things you would never even think about, and makes it fun. Reading one chapter makes you want to read another, and then another. After reading this book, you go out into the world with a different point of view about everything covered in the book. Never again will I fly on a plane without thinking about the science of the armrest.

Sea Psalms
Published in Paperback by Twenty-Third Publications (June, 1988)
Author: John Jay Hughes
Average review score:

47 pgs of beauty for the one who loves the sea and our Lord
Half of this book's pages are beautiful 4-color photos of boats (mosly sail, but some power), underway, at anchor. For each, Hughes (a sailor and a pastor) has penned a reflective poem focusing on the Lord and his goodness. Wonderful. I had a copy years ago, lost it, and yesterday my wife found a used copy for me - what a joy. This is a treasure you will use frequently.
